So many arms, so little time.

Picture book, of people with each other…

May 10th 2006 in Audio Post, Journal

Today is my anniversary. Today marks the day I have been married to my wonderful wife for fifteen whole years. It’s the crystal anniversary, but I wanted to offer her some grand gesture to show my love and appreciation; you know, something goofy, and embarrassing, and public that showed her and everyone else how much I love her. That’s sort of hard to do where we live, though. There isn’t much opportunity to be somewhere public enough to make it count. Then I remembered that there’s this here thing called the Internet.

I contacted my father-in-law a couple of weeks ago and we picked through a song list to find both a song we could do and one that conveyed what I felt. We narrowed it down to the song below. Every time I hear it I think about our lives together and growing old together and watching the world changing around us, together. I present it here so that all of you can share in, with my wife, my embarrassment and my goofiness and the grand gesture of it all. It’s me singing and Corrie Ann’s father playing guitar.

Happy Anniversary, Corrie Ann!

The song is Older Chests, originally written and performed by Damien Rice. Should any one actually wish to download this version, you can command-click or right-click here and select whatever your browser’s equivalent of ‘Save Target As…‘ is.

For the love of Pete how are the rest of us supposed to top that?? Now I’m going to have to tattoo, “This idiot belongs to Sara” on my forehead or something to even come close.

Thanks for ruining it for the rest of dude!

I’m going to have to get myself a list like Jim and put your name on it or something.

Rats! I don’t have sound on my computer at work. I’ll have to wait until I get home so my wife and I can listen to it together … or maybe not if it’s really going to raise the bar like everyone is saying.

Damn. Sorry, Woody. Did I just lose my membership to the He-Man Woman Hater’s Club? And thank you Angie, Jenni, and Rebecca. :) Also, I don’t know about raising any bars, Keith. You’re the one with the romantic hair. Heheh.

That’s incredibly cool.

All I did for my wife on our last anniversary was make her earrings out of hard drive platter spacers.

She knew what they were.

I am ready to go home.
I want to have a smaller waist-line.
I wish I were a better fencer.
I hate nothing.
I fear fear.
I hear the air conditioner in the office that’s freezing me to death.
I wonder if anyone ever really listens.
I am not going to eat the cookie I really, really want.
I dance when [...]

Here’s a shot of the little studio where we did the recording. Corrie Ann’s dad, Jack, has converted one whole room of his house into a recording studio where he and his son, Jackson, and a few others record blue grass and old timey.
