Don’t look at me; I’m hideous
I promised before pictures, and here they are. The first one is without socks. If you know what to look for, it’s pretty obvious. The left foot is the problem one. You can see how there’s a bump at the head of the first metatarsal and the big toe slants inwards toward the second toe. If you look at the right foot you can see a distinct space between the big toe and the second toe. That space is gone from my left foot.
I included a second picture with socks on as it makes it a little more apparent against the darker background. Incidentally, those socks are that white because I do my own laundry and I’m a freak about white whites.
I’m still pretty freaked about this procedure. I really don’t like the idea of my bone being cut, essentially broken, and moved around, but it should fix the problem and make it so it doesn’t happen again. The right foot, I’m told, isn’t a problem right now but may become one in five to ten years. I supposed only time will tell.
I’ve gotten in a few days practice with the Frankenstein boot; it’s awkward, but manageable. I’ve arranged to take the week of the surgery off from work as well. I’m told I’ll not be up for much more than making it to the bathroom and meals during that time. Hopefully, if I’m not too high, I’ll console myself with WoW.
Apologies to those looking forward to the gross pictures. You’ll have to wait another week and a half.
