Silence is golden

July 2nd 2007 in Computing, Journal, Work

I’ve been keeping an eye on sites like Digg and Boing-Boing, MacSlash and UneasySilence since Friday’s launch. As has been pointed out, I do have a vested interest in all this; I work for AT&T and am an Apple fan-boy. The over all impression seems to be … not bad.

The usual suspects, listed above, don’t have much news about iPhone. MacSlash had a story on Saturday about a severe delay in activation, seemingly centered around the business account issue that’s also been talked about, but there doesn’t seem to be a huge volume of complaints. There in fact seems to be more positive feedback than anything else; and these sites aren’t known for sugar coating things.

Even the controversy over the choice of EDGE versus HSDPA has been addressed and reported on. It also seems that the EDGE choice it not necessarily an entirely terrible one. I think the first 500,000 people to get their hands on one are probably too busy enjoying it’s lusciousness to stop and talk about it.

All-in-all it seems like a pretty successful launch for such and anticipated, and arguably revolutionary, product. I expect to see things only get better from here. And I really, really want one.

Were there other scattered issues? Certainly. Was the release botched by Apple and AT&T? Hardly. Most people have reported activations [...]
