So many arms, so little time.

Better late than never

June 3rd 2007 in Carowinds, Journal, Photography, Vacations

A few weeks ago I took Devin to his first real theme park. We went to Carowinds! What follows is the account of a boy and his roller coaster.

Devin and Patrick

The week before we decided to go, Corrie Ann mentioned out of the blue that I should take the boy on an overnight trip so she could get some things done around the house that she can never get done because we’re in the way. Heh, I think she was making a joke at first, but I’d actually been thinking abut taking a trip to Carowinds, so it was the perfect excuse.

In preparation for the trip, I went to the park’s website to make sure Devin would be able to ride most of the rides. As it turned out he was just tall enough for almost all of them except the two or three extreme coasters that Carowinds has. What was left was just the matter of convincing him to try them. Heh.

Devin and the Tidal Wave

The Boy is pretty adventurous, but it did take some convincing (by his mom over the phone) to get him to try the roller coasters. Once he tried them, though, he was hooked; we even tried to get on the Borg Assimilator, but they’d changed the height requirement from what they had posted on the website, and Devin was too short.

It was just as well, though. We spent almost all the the two days on or around the Nickelodeon Saturater ride, either riding it and dousing passers-by with water, or shooting water up at the people riding it. Devin absolutely loves anything to do with water and between that ride, the log ride, and the tidal wave ride we spent most of the weekend soaked to the bone.

I took lots of pictures and some video as well, and plan to post that at a later date when I’ve had time to go through it and edit something together. In the mean time, there’s a stream of photos here, or you can go see them directly on Flickr.

One final note. Seriously, ladies? Has camel toe become a fashion statement now? I think I saw more of it in those two days at the park than I have seen in all my life. Is it something about the Gs you pull on the extreme coasters?

No court, no judge, for motor cars

I spent an hour this morning in the Stokes County Government Building in Danbury, NC (who the hell was this Dan guy, by the way; they named everything around here after him). Why was I there? Well, in the five years I have been making the one-hundred mile round trip commute from my home in [...]

A week in the happiest place on earth

How do you describe an entire week at Walt Disney World in such a small space? Easy. One word. Exhausting.

Seriously, though, we spent the whole week there, visiting MGM, Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, and Epcot. In preparation for this trip, I had to shift my schedule around slightly at work, and make a whole lot [...]
