But we would wind up at HoJo’s for hamburgers to go…

Tonight Corrie Ann and I watched this special on the Burj Al Arab, in Dubai. I’ve known of the existence of Dubai for many years (my dad has been there several times on his military funded excursions to The Gulf), but only recently heard about the new Dubai when I read that Chris DiClerico was moving to Dubai. He mentions the hotel in his post too, but I really didn’t pay it much attention then.
This place is amazing. The whole front wall, the entire thing, is made of cloth. It’s the largest cloth wall in the world. In point of fact, the hotel itself breaks all kinds of records: tallest hotel in the world, tallest atrium in the world, only hotel in the world to be built on it’s own man made island. The largest water park in the world, containing the tallest slide in the world, is on shore across from the hotel, along with a second wave shaped hotel.
Anyone who knows me knows I am absolutely fascinated by the Middle East and the Mediterranean in particular (though, technically, Dubai is in the Persian Gulf). Dubai is like the perfect city to go to to visit that part of the world. It is an international city, 25% of whose population consists of westerners and dhimmi, and they are actively recruiting technology workers from all over the world. I would love an extended contract there. Though I’ll probably have to settle for a short vacation.
Suites in the Burj Al Arab start at $800 a night. I’ll probably end up staying at the HoJo.
