To everything, turn, turn, turn…

So, a little over three weeks ago I was getting ready to, yet again, update some bit of software on my PC at home so that I could work from home on those occasions when I need to. This has been a common thing of late. I find I need another tool to do my job from home, incase I get snowed in or an emergency comes up after hours, and I have to go through this whole big thing to get a copy to install at home. Anyway, it struck me that it would be so much easier if I had a laptop at work instead of a desktop. Something I could cart back and forth and wouldn’t have to worry about maintaining two environments.

This was my old machine. Nothing to sneeze at. Good monitor, optical mouse, good keyboard, 3Ghz CPU. It was nice.

This is what I have three weeks after asking if it might be possible to get a laptop. I am more thrilled than I can say. It is way more than I expected and it only took me a couple hours to get all ported over.

It even came with this tiny, wireless mouse. I thought the mouse I bought for my iBook was tiny. This thing is microscopic by comparison. Happiness is a palm sized mouse.

And the beat goes on…

Those of you who registered for the site recently, please read on. I’ve removed the requirement that you be registered and logged in, in order to post comments, and implemented some other things in an attempt to fight comment spam. Those of you who registered can ignore the whole login thing. I’ve removed those registrations. You will be required to enter a name and an email address (this address will not be published), and comments with certain key words are being held for moderation. So, if your comment doesn’t post right away it may have contained one of those key words. Don’t worry, I’ll see it and approve it.

That’s pretty much it for now. If comment spam gets bad I may require logins again, or take some other steps to try and stop it. Thanks for your patience.

Two bucks short of a pitcher…

Kuzko and Willy get bigger and bigger every day. We’ve currently got them separated from the herd while their bandings heal. They’re still a little too spunky for the girls. Heh.

You’re still glowin’…

Well, I think most of the conversion is done. There’s bound to be some links in old posts that aren’t going to work. And all the comment links in my older posts in Livejournal are no longer going to work. I am, in fact considering deleting all the old stuff in Livejournal because it is all still archived on Of Gods and Goblins if anyone really cares to go digging through them.

The new site is powered by Wordpress and Flickr, and I’m currently using the default theme. This will be changing, of course, but since all the functionality is now working I decided to cut over and just work out the rest of the kinks in public view. So, pardon the dust while I finish up.

If you have a camera phone and haven’t checked out Flickr yet, I highly recommend it. You can easily set it up so that you can post images from your phone to Flickr and your blog (they even have some stuff specifically set up to work with Livejournal) at the same time, as I have done here.

Anyway, that’s all for now. Didn’t do a lot of updating from Dallas cause the site was in transition. Look to see regular updates once again. Oh, incidentally, you’ll need to register on the new site in order to comment. This is protect me from comment spammers. Thanks!

Fashion jungle warfare…

Ok, what is up with the camo skirt?! I mean I understand wanting to be different, but this is just a little silly.

Ah, the vast urban sprawl. No, sir. I do not miss it one bit. Not even a teensy smidge.

But we all end up the remains of the day…

Some good and some decidedly undecided. Drove down into the West Village section of Dallas last night to meet up with revjim (Daniel) and his lovely wife, sivatonight (Jess). We kicked things off with dinner at Tom Tom Asian Grill And Sushi Bar, which was very good and causal and cool. Conversation was great as well. Daniel and Jess are great people and I’m really glad I got a chance to meet them.

We also went to see Mirrormask, at The Magnolia, after a stop at Starbucks just around the corner from Tom Tom. Mirrormask was, em. Well. Yeah. It was like this:

It was gorgeous. It is a visual assault, really. Stephanie Leonidas, who plays fifteen year old Helena, is absolutely lovely and probably has quite the future ahead of her. The movie is paced like Gaiman’s writing, in that it feels like Gaiman wrote it (as it should), and visually it is as though McKean breathed life into his portfolio and filmed it. The problem is that the two aren’t exactly chocolate and peanut butter. At least not in the way the two have previously combined in print. The film lacked a good editor, in my opinion, and could have done well by itself to be about a half-hour shorter. In the end I liked it because, as a fan, I am willing to forgive, and sit through, some rough bits to get to the juicy center. Unfortunately I just can’t recommend it to people who aren’t fans of Gaiman or McKean. I thought I was going to have to carry poor Daniel and Jess out of there. I felt so bad. Hopefully they won’t hold it against me too much. Heh.

Overall, I was really glad I got to meet the two of them. Hopefully we can do it again sometime, minus the artsy-fartsy movie.

This is what you get when you ask Devin to make a scary face. He must have thought I meant the face he makes when he is scared.

Running in the rat races…

Spotted over at chrisdiclerico.com.

This is the funniest freaking thing ever. I think I’ve watched it like seven times now and it keeps getting funnier every time I watch it. Click the image to see it. It’s well worth the download.

Well, gas prices are slowly creeping back down. I still cannot believe that just five months ago I was complaining about gas forty cents cheaper than this, and this morning I actually wooped over how cheap it was.
